You can buy little rubber feet with sticky backs to elevate the bottom of the tank enough for an under tank heater. I have also cut those thick felt furniture sliders to size and used those. I'm sure you know, but it is really important to use a thermostat with any under tank heater in order to prevent burns to your snake.

make sure you are using a temp gun to measure temps, not a normal thermometer, and measure temps under the bedding. If it’s 82F on top of the bedding it could be much too hot underneath, which is where rainbows spend the majority of their time.

Aluminum heat resistant tape from a home improvement store is your best bet. Whenever I get a new heat mat, I stick it directly to a piece of aluminum foil and then use the tape to adhere it. That way I can move it without bending the delicate wires inside.

If the heat mat doesn’t have a thermostat, the snake can be in serious danger of getting burns and it could even cause a fire. I rescued a corn snake that had burn marks on the bottom of her enclosure and the temps read up to 210f on the heat mat which is extremely dangerous.

You shouldn’t use a UTH at all. They are not reliable for creating ambient heat, they are hard to regulate, and are known to cause severe burns on snakes.

it’s a lot more natural for heat to come from above (the sun). a lot of snakes will naturally move underground or under cover to cool down, so when the heat is coming from below, it can cause your snake to overheat as they try to escape the heat and ultimately end up getting closer to it.

In captivity, a UTH doesn't heat the air as they aren't able to penetrate thick substrates that this species should be on for humidity purposes, so at best you'd only see a warm area on the substrate directly above the UTH's location.
